A luxury car is an investment, and in Dubai the biggest threats to it aren't on the road — they're the sun, heat, dust and humidity it faces while parked. Paint, leather and trim that would last decades in a mild climate can age in a few summers here. These habits keep a premium car looking — and valued — like new.
How UAE Summer Heat Damages Your Car — and How to Protect It
UAE summers are among the hottest in the world: on 1 August 2025 the National Centre of Meteorology recorded 51.8°C in Sweihan, Al Ain. A car parked outside in those conditions takes a beating every single day. Here is what the heat actually does — and what you can do about it.
1. The cabin turns into an oven
A study by Arizona State University and UC San Diego measured cars parked in the sun on 38°C+ days. After just one hour, the cabin averaged about 47°C, dashboards about 69°C, steering wheels 53°C and seats 51°C. Cars parked in the shade stayed much cooler — a cabin of about 38°C and a dashboard of about 48°C.
In the UAE, where summer air temperatures regularly pass 45°C, those numbers are a best case. Constant heat dries and cracks dashboards, fades leather and fabric, and weakens adhesives and plastic trim.
2. UV light breaks down your paint
Your car's clear coat absorbs ultraviolet light to protect the colour underneath. Over time, UV breaks down that clear coat: the paint loses gloss, colours fade, and the surface can oxidise and turn chalky. UV damage is cumulative — washing and polishing can't fully undo it, so prevention matters far more than repair.
3. Heat is the No. 1 battery killer
According to AAA, heat — not cold — is the biggest cause of car battery failure. High temperatures speed up the chemical reactions inside the battery and evaporate its fluid, so batteries in hot climates simply wear out sooner. Damage builds up over the summer, which is why many batteries fail weeks after the heat has peaked.
4. Tyres, rubber and dust
Sun and heat also age rubber seals, wiper blades and tyre sidewalls, which can dry out and crack. Add the UAE's fine dust and sand: it settles on every surface, and wiping it off a dry car rubs it into the paint like fine sandpaper. Dust also clogs cabin and engine air filters faster.
How to protect your car this summer
Park in full shade
whenever you can — the data above shows how much it helps.
Use a sunshade
in the windscreen to protect the dashboard.
Wash dust off with water
, never dry-wipe it.
Test your battery
before and after summer.
Check tyre pressure
regularly; heat changes it.
Give the car a permanent shelter
at home. A retractable shelter blocks direct sun, dust and rain and closes around the car in moments.
A shelter built for UAE conditions
Safe My Car retractable shelters use weather-resistant 600D Oxford fabric on galvanized steel arches, are fixed to concrete or interlock by our team, and are rated for winds up to 65 knots. Sizes fit most cars up to Nissan Patrol / Chevrolet Tahoe, with an X-Large model for bigger SUVs and a motorcycle version. See the shelters or ask us on WhatsApp which size fits your car.
Frequently asked questions
How hot does a car get inside in the UAE?
In the Arizona State University study, with outside air around 38°C, cabins averaged about 47°C and dashboards about 69°C after one hour in the sun. UAE summers are hotter, so expect more. Parking in shade lowers these temperatures significantly.
Does a windscreen sunshade help?
Yes, for the dashboard and steering wheel. It does not protect the paint, roof, tyres or the rest of the car, so it works best combined with shaded or sheltered parking.
When should I check my car battery?
Have it tested before and after summer. Heat shortens battery life, and many failures show up after the hottest months rather than during them.
